We are looking to recruit volunteers to act as positive role models and support pupils’ learning in Literacy, Numeracy or ICT.
Anyone can become a mentor as long as you enjoy working with children or young people and are enthusiastic, approachable, non-judgmental and willing to learn yourself. We work with primary and secondary schools for a ten-week cycle and each school has their own criteria for identifying pupils to attend the scheme. They may send for example, gifted and talented children, disaffected children, those weak in English, Maths and IT or those lacking in self-esteem and confidence. Sessions are made fun and learners work on activity based tasks which incorporate parts of the school curriculum, as well as making use of the sporting facilities on site. Sessions are planned and delivered by fully qualified teachers and trainers employed by Education Leeds. We recruit volunteers to encourage, motivate and support children attending Hunslet Hawks Learning Centre. Our volunteers are aged from 14-74, from businesses, the local community, school, college and university. If you would like to join our mentoring team - please get in touch! The only commitment we ask is 2 hours a week for ten weeks.
In return we offer all our volunteers:
- Opportunities to gain a nationally recognised qualification / accreditation
- On going support and opportunities for progression
- References and feedback
- Invitation to our high profile Awards Ceremony at South Leeds Stadium
In addition to the aforementioned benefits, you will also develop the following skills: Team work, Motivating others, Communication, Leadership, Organisation, Negotiation, Prioritising, Decision making.
